Be where your feet are. That’s a quote I saw a few days ago on TikTok. Yes, I know, maybe I shouldn’t be taking life advice from TikTok. But it really resonated with me. For as long as I remember, I have always had FOMO. Not always in the traditional way of wishing I was invited to something (although, yes that does happen too) but in the way that I feel like I’m missing out on another life. I think this is rooted in my indecisiveness, I’m often left feeling unsatisfied with my decisions. I think that we are almost conditioned to always want more, to do the next thing, get the next job, take the next trip, etc. But we are rarely ever fully present.

I have wanted to do the Peace Corps for my entire life. I have always known that this was something I would do. For the past month of being here, I have had many moments where I have thought about the different paths I could have chosen after graduating college. I thought about what it would be like to still be in D.C. living near my friends and working a traditional 9 to 5. I have also thought about what it would be like to live at home while searching for a job that best suited me and my experience. Although these options would have also come with their ups and down, I didn’t choose them. I chose to join Peace Corps and try something new.

I find it hard to explain how I feel sometimes. It’s not that I would give up the position I’m in right now or want to leave and choose a different path. Maybe it’s that I want to be in two places at once. The reality is that isn’t possible, which leads me to what I’m trying to say. Be where your feet are. I chose to be here in Guatemala and here I am. I am working on being present because after all the present is the only thing guaranteed.
